Eyelash extensions can take up to two months but if you don’t take good care of them, chances are they won’t last that long. So, how to make eyelash extensions last longer?

The key to have your eyelash extensions to last longer is to strictly follow your new after care routine. Down below you have an extensive list of recommendations:

  1. Stay away from water for at least 24 hours
  2. Avoid water proof makeup
  3. Use oil-free skincare products, specially cleansers and makeup removers
  4. Sleep on your back
  5. Avoid sweating as it can cause the glue to unravel or weaken, causing the extensions to fall out much sooner than expected.
  6. Be gentle while removing makeup and washing your face
  7. Avoid touching and rubbing your lashes
  8. Choosing an extension that is similar to your natural lash curvature will make it blend better and adapt more naturally

Staying Away From Water

It doesn’t mean you will need to run from water all the time. You can still have a normal life while using eyelash extensions, but you need to avoid water in the first 24 hours after the procedure.

After that, you can still go to the beach, swimming pool and have normal fun. As long as you follow all the instructions I’ve shared here, you can still make eyelash extensions last longer.

Avoid water proof makeup

I am not saying that you should forget to use your mascara from time to time, but it is really important that you don’t use it too often if you want your lash extensions to last longer.

However, I’d say that stopping using waterproof mascara will be the ideal here, as you will need to remove them (at least most of the time) with removers that contain oils.

This leads to our next tip which is to avoid skincare products that contain oils. Keep on reading to understand why!

Use Oil-free Skincare Products

Staying away from oil will be a good weapon to protect your lash extensions and make them last longer, because the oils can and will weaken the lash glue.

For this reason, it is important to avoid water proof makeup, as well as oil cleansers at all costs.

Sleep On Your Back

If you can manage to sleep on your back then you are a queen and deserves all the best the skincare can give to you! Sleeping on your back will not only preserve your lashes but also prevent wrinkles!

I know this is hard for some people (myself included) and and for this some people would recommend you to sleep with a satin sleeping mask as a turn around. I never tried this but I think it is worth trying.

Be Gentle While Washing Your Face

This is true not only in terms of doing things carefully but also while picking your skincare products. Opt for gentle products that won’t irritate your eyes.

For this, use a lash shampoo. Some people also like to use baby soap which I love and recommend for your facial skin care in general. You will be surprised how good it is to use baby soap on the face.

Will Washing My Extensions Help it Last?

Yes. By washing your extensions regularly you are taking off excess oils, pollution, sweating and product left over. This means that your extension bond will be free and protected from these residuals.

How Often Should I Wash My Extensions?

Washing your lashes everyday will help you keep them for longer. Also, any time you wear eye makeup. Some people wash it twice a day on the morning and evening routine. Test it out to find out what works best for you, but don’t over do it.

Choose The Right Extension

Choosing the right extension is already an important thing because it needs to be a good fit for your eye shape and style. However the benefits of picking the right extensions go beyond that.

When you choose a curvature that is similar to your own natural lash curvature, you are adding less pressure to it, which at the beginning you may think it’s not a big deal but it will make the lashes conflict together.

Also, have in mind that extensions that are too full and too heavy will normally last less than those extensions that are lighter and that look more natural. Extensions that are too large or full tend to last less, so have this in mind while choosing them.

Apply Protective Lash Sealant

Last but not least, applying protective sealant will form a protective barrier to protect your lashes from residuals, sweat, and pollution dust and other things that can break down the lash glue. So, it is really important to invest in it!

How To Make Eyelash Extensions Last Longer – Final Takes

The best way to make your eyelashes last longer is to strictly follow an eyelash aftercare regimen.

For example, you need to keep them clean and always remember to be super gentle while washing your face when you have extensions on. Also, there are tons of things you need to avoid, such as overexposure to the sun as the sweat can wear down the bond glue.
