If you’ve read any of my skincare posts, you know how much I love my oils. They help clear up my skin and provide a subtle glow. However, heading into fall/winter weather, my skin needs something more lately. So, I tried this DIY face lotion explicitly tailored for sensitive skin.
Why Make Your Lotion?
Do I have too much time on my hands? No. I make my beauty products because:
- Sensitive Skin: I have sensitive skin that seems to break out when exposed to chemicals or specific ingredients.
- Health Conscious: I care about what goes into my body. Our skin absorbs everything we put on it, and I prefer to use natural ingredients without harmful chemicals.
The Recipe
I wanted to create a lotion that would moisturize well, not cause breakouts, fight wrinkles, and be chemical-free. Here’s what I came up with, and I think you’ll love it too.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
- 3 tablespoons aloe vera juice
- 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
- 6 drops of lavender essential oil
- 6 drops frankincense oil
- 6 drops rose oil
- Glass jars
Instructions:
- Melt and Mix: Combine shea butter and jojoba oil in a glass jar. Place the jar in a large frying pan with water and melt over medium-high heat.
- Cool and Blend: Let it cool for 20 minutes, then pour it into a giant bowl. Add aloe vera juice and vitamin E oil, and blend until well-mixed.
- Add Essential Oils: Incorporate lavender, frankincense, and rose oils. Blend until the mixture starts to harden into a lotion.
- Store: Pour into a glass jar with a lid and let it solidify.
Why These Ingredients?
- Shea Butter: High in vitamins and fatty acids.
- Aloe Vera Juice: Healing, antioxidants, treats acne, anti-aging, moisturizing.
- Vitamin E Oil: Great for moisturizing and preserves the lotion longer.
- Frankincense Oil: Fights wrinkles and reduces scars and age spots.
- Rose Oil: Combats acne.
- Lavender Oil: Fights acne and reduces redness.
Your DIY face lotion should last up to or even a little past six months. Share the love by giving it as a gift if you have extra! For even more beautiful glowing skin, pair it with a DIY Lush Salt Scrub and try this cheaper alternative moisturizer made from washed ghee for a fluffy, soft lotion.
