Creating a morning routine will help you be more intentional, breaking the circle of doing things by default. When you leave everything on autopilot, you lose control of your life, and a baby step to revert this is by sticking with a morning routine!
It is hard because if you are used to doing the work without being intentional, your life and your cells are used to doing things this well, so breaking that circle will be tough.
I’m here to encourage you not to be discouraged because this is the beginning of your day, and if you want to start taking control of your life and be more assertive, begin with your morning routine!
1. Devote The Premises To Your Faith
I believe that health begins with spirituality. When you wake up, say your prayers, talk to God and offer this day to him. Ask for wisdom and guidance for the situations you will enter this day.
I usually like to begin with a psalm, but you can find what suits your faith or religion best. If there is an ongoing problem you need to solve, imagine this being solved.
2. Set Your Intentions
Scan your mind to remember what you will do that day, make a list, even if this is a mental list, and start meditating on these tasks, imagining how you want them solved but being open to new and better possibilities.
For example, if you have a meeting, set your intentions for this meeting to share your points so that they are understood by your colleagues and accepted. If you need to go to the grocery store that day, bless your shopping time by being thankful for quickly finding everything necessary.
3. Hydrate Your Body
Now that you have cleared and fed your mind and soul hydrate your body with a nice glass of water! Dr. Ashish Sachdeva from Pinnacle Care Internal Medicine recommends you drink 650 mL (3 cups) when you wake. She also shares that drinking proper water throughout the day helps brighten your skin, helps with weight loss, and improves metabolism, among other benefits!
4. Shake and Move Your Body
If you don’t have much time, you can do a 10-minute stretching routine, or why not dance a little to help you wake up with more energy? I like to do cord jumping sometimes, but when I feel lazy, I do something more relaxing.
5. Have a Healthy Breakfast
Many people (myself included) are not that hungry in the morning. Don’t skip your breakfast; be wise about what you bring in during this time. It is essential to have a proper breakfast to balance your body, maintain your weight, and help you feel less hungry, among other benefits.
Nutritionist Abby langer recommends you consume proteins that derive from fruits and vegetables. You can try eggs, beans, tofu, or Greek yogurt. Nutritionist Daniel Kady says it doesn’t have to be complicated. You can have lightweight white cheese such as ricotta, boiled eggs, black coffee without sugar, banana, and citrus fruit.
Setting intentions for the day is one of my morning rules! It definetly sets you up for the day right.
